Academic Exchange Service. It is the largest funding organization which provides support to international exchange of students and scholars. DAAD is a self governing private national agency of 365 higher education institutions in Germany which is federally and state funded.

DAAD offers competitive, merit based grants for pursuing study and research in German institution. It runs over 250 programmes, through which it funds more than 67,000 German and foreign scholars worldwide per annum. The DAAD provides scholarship to:

The DAAD offers grants for the students of all disciplines and degree level. DAAD grants are available for

- Undergraduate and Graduate program
- Master’s program
- Doctoral program
- Postdoctoral program
- Faculty program

Selection criteria: The candidate should have an excellent academic record and must have appropriate proof of German language proficiency. Apart from that, the requirements may vary from country to country.

Once the application has been reviewed, it will be rated on the basis of a points system. This is then used to produce a ranking list and finally to award the scholarships in accordance with the number of available places.
